New York NFA Laws

New York bans civilian possession of suppressors, machine guns, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns under Penal Law §§ 265.00–265.40. These bans apply regardless of federal NFA compliance. The SAFE Act (2013) and subsequent laws added additional restrictions. Narrow exceptions apply to law enforcement, military, and licensed dealers. New York City has separate, stricter ordinances on top of state law.
